Bharath Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) commenced its educational journey as the pioneering self-financing Engineering College in Tamil Nadu in 1984, under the visionary leadership of Dr. S. Jagathrakshakan and the auspices of Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust. The institution's commitment to academic excellence led to the establishment of Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital in 1989. Recognizing the significant contributions, Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital attained the status of a Deemed to be University by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) in July 2002, operating under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. This marked the inception of the Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER), a new trust overseeing the university.
Bharath Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and several other institutions were subsequently brought under the aegis of Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER). The institution has evolved into a global center for education, catering to the diverse needs of nearly 10,000 students from across the globe. Situated on a vast expanse of 603 acres, with 1.3 crore sq.ft of modern infrastructure spread across 6 campuses in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, BIHER is committed to providing multi-stream, multi-cultural, and high-quality education.

The School of Computing, Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research, encompasses the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the Department of Information Technology. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering offers B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering with NBA accreditation, B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence), B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering (Cyber Security), M.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering. The Department of Information Technology provides B.Tech Information Technology and M.Tech Information Technology.
The school also offers Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering and Ph.D. in Information Technology. It has established collaborations with top-notch industries like IBM, Oracle, VMWare, RedHat, and Cisco to share knowledge and experience with students. The school houses a Centre of Excellence in digital forensics and Artificial Intelligence to bridge the gap between industry and academia.
Placements have been consistently above 90% for the past three years, with students securing positions with the highest salary of 24 lakhs per annum and an average salary of 3.5 lakhs per annum. The school provides guidance for placements starting from the first year. Notably, the students and faculty of the School of Computing have accumulated a total of more than 300 patents.
